Duration and file-size calculator

Estimate how big a clip will be from duration and bitrate.

This tool processes files and text locally in your browser. Your content is not uploaded or stored by this site.

What this tool does

size_bytes = (video_kbps + audio_kbps) * 1000 * duration / 8. Container overhead is omitted, so real files are slightly larger.

How to use it

  1. Enter duration and bitrates.
  2. Read the estimated bytes.
  3. Compare with platform upload limits.

Supported input

  • Duration and bitrates, or a file to reverse the estimate

Output

  • Estimated bytes and a human-readable size

Keyframes, B-frames, and container headers add bytes. Leave headroom under a platform cap.

FAQ

Does this include thumbnails?

No. Only the audio+video bitrate model.

Can I plan a podcast video?

Yes, but talking-head content often looks fine at lower video bitrates than 8000 kbps.

Is MB mega-byte or mebi-byte?

Display uses 1024-based MiB-style MB as in the rest of ConvertPass, labelled as MB for familiarity.

Will you transcode to hit a size?

Not in phase one. That is processing, not discovery.
