What this tool does

Compression is a re-encode at a chosen quality. The UI shows original bytes versus output bytes. That comparison is exact for the encoded blob, not an estimate.

How to use it

2. Move the quality slider.
3. Compare sizes, then download if the trade-off is acceptable.

Privacy

This tool processes files and text locally in your browser. Your content is not uploaded or stored by this site.

Limitations

• PNG quality sliders have little effect in most browsers.
• Already-compressed JPEGs may get larger if you re-encode at high quality.

Troubleshooting

The file got larger

You re-encoded a small JPEG at a higher quality, or you converted PNG screenshots to PNG again. Try WebP or a lower quality.

FAQ

Is this the same as TinyPNG?

No. Those services use specialised quantisers and often a server. ConvertPass uses the browser encoder so files never leave the device. Results will differ.

What quality should I use for a blog hero?

Start around 0.75–0.85 for JPEG or WebP and look at the actual bytes. There is no universal number.

Does this strip GPS?

Yes, as a side effect of canvas encode. Use the metadata remover if stripping is the primary job.

Can I target a maximum byte size?

Not automatically in this version. Adjust quality until the comparison shows a size you accept.
