Image metadata remover

Strip location and camera metadata before you share a photo.

This tool processes files and text locally in your browser. Your content is not uploaded or stored by this site.

Drop files here or

Drop a file to strip metadata and download the result immediately. Nothing is stored.

What this tool does

For JPEG, WebP, and other canvas-backed types, ConvertPass re-encodes the pixels. That drops EXIF. For PNG, you can rebuild the file without tEXt/iTXt/zTXt/eXIf chunks, which also drops ComfyUI workflows. Re-encoding may change quality.

How to use it

  1. Drop images.
  2. Choose re-encode or PNG chunk strip when applicable.
  3. Download the cleaned files and verify in the EXIF viewer.

Supported input

  • Raster images

Output

  • Images without EXIF/GPS and, for PNG strip, without text chunks

Privacy

This tool processes files and text locally in your browser. Your content is not uploaded or stored by this site.

ConvertPass does not include your input in analytics, URLs, or error reports. Encoding: Canvas or PNG rebuild. Limit: 10 files, 25 MB each (25.00 MB).

Limitations

  • Re-encoding JPEG is lossy.
  • Some cameras hide data in maker notes that a naive strip can miss if you only edit headers. Canvas re-encode is the thorough option.
  • Thumbnails embedded in EXIF are dropped, which is usually what you want.

Example

Input
phone.jpg with GPSLatitude
Output
phone.jpg with no EXIF GPS; EXIF viewer reports no metadata

Troubleshooting

EXIF viewer still shows tags
You may have downloaded the original. Check the filename and run the viewer on the new file.

FAQ

Is this enough before posting to social media?

It removes metadata from the file you download. Platforms may still infer location from IP, captions, or previously tagged albums.

Will AI prompts be removed from PNG files?

Yes if you use PNG chunk strip or canvas re-encode. The dedicated AI metadata remover explains generator-specific chunks.

Does the site keep a copy?

No.

Why might colours shift?

Canvas ignores some ICC profiles. If colour management matters, strip metadata with a specialised tool that keeps the profile.
