How to remove embedded AI-generation metadata before sharing an image

Drop the chunks, then open the download again.

By ConvertPass testing desk. Last reviewed 16 August 2026.

Choose a strip path

PNG chunk strip copies IDAT and drops tEXt/iTXt/zTXt/eXIf/tIME. Pixels stay the same. That is the right default for a lossless PNG you still want to keep sharp.

Canvas re-encode drops metadata by throwing the container away. Use it for JPEG, or when you do not need lossless pixels.

Verify

Open the download in the AI metadata viewer and the PNG chunk inspector. If workflow is still listed, you saved the wrong file.

Limitations

This does not detect hidden payloads in pixel LSBs. It does not make the picture anonymous. It removes the metadata channels ConvertPass knows how to drop.
